We’ve been working with 11 other councils across the county on proposals to create new unitary councils across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight - and together, we’ve now published the joint proposal.

The joint proposal, Close enough to be local, big enough to stay strong, builds a strongly evidenced-based case as to why four unitary councils on the mainland, maintaining the Isle of Wight as a separate council, is the best outcome for the area. In the proposal, there are three different options for the four new unitary councils for mainland Hampshire.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to give feedback via the survey, or at one of our drop-in events in July - your input has helped shape the proposal.

The proposal will be considered at Council and Cabinet meetings at all 12 councils during September and on 24 and 25 September for Winchester.
