IS IT PLASTIC AND SHAPED LIKE A BOTTLE?

Do you ever wonder whether a plastic item can be put in your green recycling bin? We know Winchester residents are keen recyclers but you’re right to check, as putting the wrong thing in – also known as contamination – can lead to the whole bin being rejected for recycling.

Across Hampshire, currently only plastics that can be recycled are plastic bottles. No other plastic items can be recycled locally. This will of course change when Hampshire’s planned new recycling facility is built.

In the meantime, anything that is shaped like a bottle and made of plastic (including drinks bottles, milk bottles, shampoo bottles and cleaning product bottles) can go into your green recycling bin. Lids and labels can be left on. Please empty any liquid content and squash the bottle if possible before replacing the lid.
